Message from the President

It’s that time of the year again; the tuna has paid their visit and the fish is slacked off; except a few specks in the back of creeks and what deep holes they can find.

Now is a great time to go through and check your boat out and get it ready for the up coming year. I have made a small list that may be helpful in getting ready for the upcoming season.

   Change out the spark plugs and install fresh one

.    Check the lower unit on the lube and remove the prop to make sure you haven’t pick up some fishing line that might damage the seal

.     While you are checking the seal put some grease on the prop shaft

.     Check the prop for dings and chips (a damaged prop can cost you in fuel and possible motor damage).

  Check the wiring to all-electrical components and clean the connections of the battery of corrosion.

     Make sure your navigational lights are working.

.      Put your batteries on a charge and check for dead cells.

      Check your anchor rope for cuts and abrasions.

.      And most important check your PFD’S for fray stitching.

.   And have your boat safety inspected by the Coast Guard Aux. it is free and gives you a piece of mind.

.  Most of all if you are not a member of Sea Tow; now is the time to join It is a great peace of mind know that if you do have problems; you can trust them to help you out.

Most of the time we take things for granite that everything worked fine last fall when I put it up for the winter it should be okay. It is better to do the check now, than later when you are out at the reef with a kid and break down or something goes wrong it would take the pleasure out the kids day and they will have second thoughts the next time you ask them to go.

And on the days that it is raining and bad you can clean your reels and rod; respool with new line.

This is just some thought’s that some may have already done; but for the newcomers to the sport of fishing this is a good time to get ready for toward having a great season.
